A happy day

It was an ordinary happy day for the inhabitants of the world. For Mab and Bos, however, it was extraordinarily joyful. They had had a gift which they had to look after for weeks, without knowing what it really is inside. The excitement stirred their hearts when they heard it opening: a tiny but strong crack. As the gift had grown bigger than its wrap; the wrap had to be broken to reveal the tip of Bala’s beak.

The gift had to open by itself and when it is ready. It is never easy to wait for something you don’t know when will happen. But Mab and Bos knew that this was the nature of the gift.

As Bala was instinctively creating new space for himself, Mab and Bos watched him without any breaths. It was a very special moment and they wanted to keep each and every second in their memories for the rest of their lives.

After getting rid of the constraining shell, Bala stretched his little body, extending the featherless wings out and relatively big head upwards. Then left his body to the powers of physics because he was really tired. But he had won the first struggle of his life. As he slowly breathed, Mab tried to take a closer look at his son. How small and helpless he was. Even his beak was still soft. Then she gave a look at Bos and Bos knew what she meant. The baby would soon be very very hungry. So he left the nest, still looking at his little but strong son. Then he flew to catch some fish.

How it started

“Yes I know I can fly… I am just scared.”

“Everybody is scared one time or another on the search of one’s limit.”

“Maybe this is my limit. This cliff… This edge… Maybe this is all the way I am meant to go!”

“No, Bala. the only limit you have is the sky. You need to take this step to see that.”

“But…”

“I am not saying that it won’t hurt. It may… and better it will. The easiest way to learn is by suffering from our mistakes. But if you stay, I assure you that it won’t hurt outside. However, you will sow a seed of pain inside and that pain will grow and hurt you more and each day.”

“So I can’t stay either.”

“That’s your decision to make. Now, are you scared to stay or to take that step off the cliff?”

“I think I am more scared of wondering how it would be like if I had taken it. So… Goodbye!”

“Goodbye Bala. And don’t forget, it is never easy to discover the rest of the world!”

This is how it all started for Bala. Gugu was aware that even if he was not there on that cliff talking to Bala, Bala would take that step anyway. It might have taken more time for him but he was meant to do it. This is always the case with pupils. Tutors can only help things happen faster for them but pupils define the limits. As Gugu told him, Bala’s limit is the sky and trying to avoid obvious pain may result in bigger suffering.
